isten to YAVIN – Away From Home, the full album by trombonist and musician Yavin Groenewegen, released on May 29, 2026.

The album features 7 original tracks, combining live instruments with electronic instruments and production. Trombone, jazz, live musicianship and electronic sounds come together to create a personal and varied musical sound.

Why “Away From Home”?

As a musician, being away from home is part of the journey. You travel, perform, create and spend many hours working on music.

Away From Home took several years to create. During that time, I spent countless hours making music and developing the album. But looking back, I realized that I had also become “away from home” in another sense.

My faith and my relationship with God are meant to be at the center of my life. While working on the album, I sometimes became so focused on music that I lost sight of that.

So Away From Home became more than just a title. It became a reflection of a period in my life — being physically away from home as a musician, while also recognizing what it means to be spiritually away from where I am meant to be.

Heartbeat PG was released separately as a single connected to the album. Frans Rinsma co-wrote Heartbeat PG with Yavin.

The Musicians

Yavin Groenewegen wrote all of the music for the album and created the original concepts and sketches for how he wanted the songs to sound.

Sander Tournier played a major role in developing these ideas into the tracks you hear today. Yavin and Sander spent many hours together recording, refining parts and building a strong musical foundation for each song.

Sander played many of the keyboards, while also contributing bass lines, drums and other electronic and musical elements, helping shape the sound and production of the album.

On Create Space, Tobias Kerkhoven plays guitar and delivers a fantastic guitar solo.

The Holy Horns brass section also features on several tracks:

There are also several featured solo moments throughout the project. David Mast plays a flugelhorn solo on Release, David Wilschut plays a saxophone solo on Away From Home, and Tom Ridderbeekx plays trumpet solos on Heartbeat PG and Spring.

Frans Rinsma also co-wrote Two Worlds and Heartbeat PG with Yavin.

Recording & Production 🎚️

The album started with Yavin’s musical ideas and initial sketches. Yavin wrote all the songs and created a clear idea of the sounds, atmosphere and direction he wanted for each track.

From there, Yavin and Sander Tournier spent many hours together recording and refining the music. They worked on the parts, sounds and arrangements to create a strong foundation for each song.

One of the main ideas behind Away From Home was to explore the combination of live instruments and electronic instruments. Acoustic instruments and live musicians were brought together with electronic sounds, programmed elements, bass lines, drums and other textures to create the album’s sound.

The horns and Yavin’s main recordings were recorded at Jan Poirot’s studio, with Bob van Haaren handling the recording there.

Additional parts were recorded at Sander Tournier’s home studio and at Tobias Kerkhoven’s home. Yavin also recorded his trombone part for Spring at home.

The album was mixed by Jan Poirot, with mastering by Entimbre.

The artwork for Away From Home was created by Evelien Groenewegen, giving the album its own visual identity.
